How would you respond to the question of "how come the EVE box sells pretty much everywhere for NOTICEABLY less than a 60-day GTC, even if it DOES contain a 60-day GTC among several other things" ? Actually, the EVE-box sells for less than 1/6 of one year's subscription in a lot of places Did you at least get 22 euro per box manufactured or not ? At least close to that ? And how many boxes were manufactured ?

Originally by: Sir Muffoon People keep making threads about this. Why? I like the boxes having GTCs in them that aren't only able to be applied to trial accounts.
It's not about having GTCs in them, it's about the "failprice" they're sold at... a 60-day GTC costs 35 euro if you're unlucky enough to buy it from the EU (or 35$ = aprox 25 euro if you order online), while the box itself sells for as low as 20 euro in several places where it's still available. And you don't get JUST the 60-day GTC (which can be applied to ANY account, or be used to create a fresh account with the special shuttle, the militia waiver and whatnot), but some other physical goodies too.

If the reseller is based in the EU, they have to sell it in Euros and pay VAT. Luckily, most online sites you can order GTCs from are USA-based (or at least not EU-based). The "unlucky" ones are the few that get them from a store in the EU (or worse, they live in the EU and make the mistake of ordering one from CCP directly - not only do they pay 35 euro, but ALSO SHIPPING COSTS on top of it all, and have to wait a while for the physical card to arrive).

Originally by: Vaal Erit CCP does not set the price of the box. At the most they set a recommended retail price but the retailers have ultimate control over how much they want to sell the product for. Learn2retail.
Yeah... but CCP has to have been paid for the GTC which resides inside the box (even at a hefty discount, a sum of 20$/20 euro or thereabouts would have been about "fair"), also extra costs must have been incurred for actually producing the rest of the stuff inside the box, packaging it and shipping it to retailers, and SOMEBODY has to have paid for it too. You can only draw two possible conclusions from this : CCP was paid peanuts for the GTCs inside... and the retailers have serious trouble getting rid of the box. Well, at least one of those two must be correct. I guess that would mean either CCP or Atari need to "Learn2retail"

Yeah... because some random joe that never played EVE before will buy the heavily discounted boxes, right ? As opposed to being picked up massively by EXISTING players
